Remember at school having to come in and sit down quietly? Did you like it? Fortunately today we have come a long way and understand that people learn and live life, including running their business, according to Multiple Intelligences. Lifelong learning is essential not only to keep up with technology but also to continue to grow as a person. If you do want to succeed in life continual learning is a given. This can be done by reading especially the business classics such as ‘How to Win Friends and Influence People’, ‘The Magic of Thinking Big’ and ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad’. It can also be done by watching or listening to inspirational speakers such as Anthony Robbins, Jim Rohn or your local pastor. Another way is to attend short courses or conferences. Being in a network for your industry has many benefits such as collegial support, access to better resources, and motivation in general. Multiple Intelligences (MI’s) are basically styles that we like to learn by and each of us vary and have a composite mix of most and sometimes even all. They include: verbal/linguistic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, visual/spacial, bodily kinesthetic, natural, musical, experiential, logical/mathematical. Verbal/linguistic and logical/mathematical are the two traditional ways we learnt in a classroom – those good at maths and those good with language and words. Then physical education suited people who enjoy the bodily kinesthetic style. Intrapersonal matches the quieter, introspective student, while interpersonal the chatty ones. Musical is obvious but is not just for the musically talented but to all who enjoy music. Natural learners love the outdoors and learn best by touching, feeling and smelling nature. Experiential is for those who do not learn so well in the abstract from books but need to ‘do’. Visual/spatial people could be anyone from artists to architects to engineers or anyone who remembers things from where they are positioned or sees things in three dimensions. In this video, Tony Robbins explains how we need to participate and be active to retain what we learn. Even the inspirational Tony Robbins has a tough crowd in this one!!
